Andrew has returned to Australia after narrowly missing the summit of Mt Everest on his solo, oxygenless attempt from the difficult Northern side of the mountain. Feeling the effects of Cerebral Oedema he made the choice when just 300 metres from Everest’s summit, to turn back, thereby saving himself and preventing his becoming a liability to other expeditions. Andrew says that after 25 expeditions to 8000 metres, he is retiring from the ‘death zone’ to take up lower altitude but equally exciting and challenging adventures. Whilst planning his next big epic, he has a few local adventures to undertake, including the Sydney to Hobart yacht race in December 2012 and a major walk in Australia’s wildest region, South West Tasmania.
